Educator’s Forum - KUETEF]
Early this year (2015) Dr.G.R.Santhosh Kumar, Chairman, BOS in
Education (Pass) who is also the Convenor of the proposed revision of the BEd
curriculum of the University of Kerala, got in touch with me and briefed me about the proposed Workshop for drafting the two year BEd curriculum.
Though I currently work
in a college affiliated to Kannur University, the invitation to serve as Convenor
for English Syllabus revision for the proposed 2 year course came as a pleasant surprise.
I hope you all know the
nature of work in colleges of teacher
education during February-March. I too
was completely preoccupied with time
bound pedagogical responsibilities and hardly found time to fully involve
with the revision process. Now that
the two month vacation has commenced
I am relatively free, hence this post.
Two meetings were held prior to the Creative Workshop held at
Mar Theophilus Training College, Nalanchira from 16 to 19 March 2015 to
prepare a framework for the two year programme.
Unlike in the previous
curriculum revision, the
different optional subjects did not have grass root level meetings to identify proposed changes. So on
the first day of the Workshop I circulated the following write up to the
teacher educators in English who were invited for the Workshop:
University
of Kerala
Workshop
for the preparation of Two year BEd Curriculum
Mar Theophilus Training College, Nalanchira
16 to 19 March 2015
Optional
Subject: English
Dear all,
Welcome to the Workshop. Perhaps you must have noticed
that unlike in the revision process held
in 2013-14, we did not have a series of
workshops for English alone. And for the present Workshop only a handful of teacher educators have been
invited.
As the onus is now on
us to propose changes for addition/deletion or refining of the old curriculum
let us join hands and put in our best to
evolve a syllabus suited for the two year (4 semester) BEd. Programme.
During the four-day workshop we would have to complete the
following:
* Add/delete/refine the
content of the two semester
programme.
* Suggest content for
the third semester.
* Arrive at a consensus for the project work proposed for the fourth semester.
* Prepare model question papers.
* Enrich the Handbook by preparing write-ups/Guidelines for
transaction of the content in the syllabus.
I deem it a privilege to join all of you in the revision
process. Kindly fill up the Proposal Form
(behind this page) as early as possible
so that we can commence our work once
the inaugural function is over.
