[Kerala University English Teacher
Educator’s Forum - KUETEF]
I have been receiving phone calls from quite a few
teacher educators seeking clarification regarding the number of Lesson Plans to be written by
the trainees during the Second Spell of Practice Teaching ...
Well... they are ‘trainees’ and wouldn’t it be wise
to direct them to engage classes only after preparing a Lesson Plan?... Can we
expect them to do a better job during
the ten additional working days recently
introduced for Practice Teaching (PT), without preparing additional Lesson Plans?
I vividly recall the days when I did my Practice
Teaching. In those days, each trainee had to
compulsorily engage classes in two standards (VIII
& IX). This meant that each
trainee had to engage two periods each day and conduct two Achievement Tests during PT. From my own experience, I can tell you that it was
really strenuous to get ten Lesson Plans
ready for each week. But, in the long run, it helped us tremendously in analyzing two
different Course Books properly and explore the nuances of different teaching
strategies we usually apply for
teaching English.
I only hope that the Board of Studies grows wiser
and reduces by half, the number of
Practicums now being written by the trainees and reintroduces the
earlier pattern of compulsorily teaching two standards each day.
Well... any
comments?
