116. On the techno-edge to ELT Methods

[Posted for  the Kerala University English Teacher Educator’s Forum - KUETEF]

As part of the Course work for the BEd programme of the University of Kerala, trainees are expected to be familiar with more than half a dozen modern language teaching methods. By the time the trainees complete their Practice Teaching, a majority of them become familiar with the ways of engaging classes using technological gadgets. But impressions drawn from trainees on completion of the month-long spell of Practice Teaching revealed  that many were unaware of ways of integrating technology for the different methods they were expected to be familiar  with at  the end of the BEd course.

It is an accepted fact that many trainees who complete the BEd programme will be taking up appointment  in institutions that make a profuse use of techno-based instructional practices. So it becomes imperative to familiarize prospective teaches with techno–based pedagogical strategies for modern ELT methods.

Recently while teaching BEd trainees, to address the growing need  to become familiar with techno-pedagogy,  a techno-based ELT methodology scrutinizing session was organized  in a workshop mode. The objective was to develop in trainees the ability to identify appropriate digital learning materials and  techno-based pedagogic strategies for teaching a given content.

* The ‘techno-based ELT methodology scrutinizing workshop’ was found to be extremely useful....Perhaps  you too can give it a try...
