[Kerala University English Teacher
Educator’s Forum - KUETEF]
During the ensuing
discussions of the meeting of the Curriculum Core Committee, on 08 March 2013, it was reiterated that
concerned Subject Convenors should in their respective subject frame work,
clearly specify the time required, the nature of the content, the mode of
transaction, the weightage of
marks and the mode of assessment.
The areas they were asked to look into included the following:
·
Semester-end Written
Examination
·
Practical Examination
·
School Visit ( 05 days with
two teaching periods in Semester
I)
·
Practice Teaching during
Semester II (Std. VI to Std. XII)
·
Physical Education
·
Health Education
·
SUPW
·
Case Study
·
Online assessment
·
e-portfolio
·
Video observation of lessons (3 Nos with Evaluation Schedule)
The members present also insisted that the final Curriculum
which evolves should ensure trainee participation without generating a
feel of having to complete dull
Course work. Around that time, I
proposed the inclusion of a new paper focussing on most of the
activities already identified to ensure that
trainees find the entire course extremely useful. I had in
mind the following content to be covered
as part of Professional training
of a 21st Century Teacher:
·
Life Skills
·
Soft Skills
·
Health Education and
Yoga
·
Physical Education
·
Community Living Camp
·
Study Tour
·
SUPW
·
Creativity Club
·
Eco Club
·
Art Education
·
Workshop on Thinking
Skills
·
Workshop on Multiple
Intelligences
·
Guidance and
Counselling
However, the members present opined
that it would be difficult to find teacher educators capable of transacting
these topics. And on perceiving
the general impression that
the BEd curriculum is
already overburdened, I backed out from presenting a proposal to
include a new Paper which I believe would definitely help prune
a teacher for future generations.
Any comments
dear reader?...
