81. Why such an over emphasis on ICT?

[Kerala University English Teacher Educator’s Forum - KUETEF]

When the revised  BEd curriculum of the University of Kerala  was  published,  many teachers whom I met expressed concern about the  over emphasis on  ICT.

The last decade has seen tremendous  changes in the way the present generation  of  students learn. Some of  us in the teaching profession  are  fast becoming  ‘obsolete’… or to use  a  descriptive  term coined  by neo-educationists  - ‘academic fossils’!...  The time has come for us to  CHANGE!
Do read the following…:

1. Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants  by Marc Prensky

2. The write-up on Digital Natives in Wikipedia

3. Digital Natives: Ten Years After by Apostolos Koutropoulos in
MERLOT Journal of Online Learning and Teaching  Vol. 7, No.4, December 2011

4. The UNESCO publication, ICTs for Higher Education: Background paper from the Commonwealth of  Learning UNESCO World Conference on Higher
Education Paris, 5 to 8 July 2009

If you are willing to change, read the following chapters...
ICTs: The Basics and the Trends
ICTs in Research
ICTs in Community Engagement
ICTs in Teaching
ICTs in Administration
